Torchwood: Web of Liesedit source

Hiya Ausir :) Thanks very much for trying to create the above article. Unfortunately, it's just a smidgen too early. I always hate it when my first contact with another user is over deleting their work, but I'm afraid that's the case here. Our spoiler policy in concert with our vandalism policy prohibits the premature creation of articles about not-yet-released content. The main reason is that such articles attract a lot of spoilers, rumours and speculation which will only have to be cleaned up later. One particular problem that we've found with starting an article too early is that names of stories are subject to change right up to the moment of first release. If an article about an unreleased story has been started too early, we've found that we spent tons of time trying to untangle all the links that have been made to the wrong name. Thus, we tend to wait until the episode is actually broadcast, or near enough, to start the article. We tend to think of ourselves more as an encyclopedia than a news organisation.

That said, you did exactly the right thing here by putting up a spoiler tag in concert with real world. It's really just a question of it being a tad too early with the information.

I hope that this deletion doesn't frustrate you or prevent you from editing with us in the future. I look forward to your future contributions. If you'd like to look at a recent community discussion about this issue, I invite you to read and contribute to Forum:When can we create "The Impossible Astronaut" page?. Thanks again for the time you spend with us. :)

Hmmm, creating a redirect is an interesting thought, but I'd be opposed to it. See, from my perspective, the main reason for our policy against premature creation of story pages is that it gives people something to link to. If that name is later proved incorrect, then whatever links have been made have to be changed. This happened to us a few times in 2010 alone — the DWU, for whatever reason, being prone to last minute title changes. So even if you create a redirect, the problem isn't solved. It's still possible, even if unlikely, the Web of Lies won't be the final name. One thing that's particularly unclear about this one, pre-broadcast, is whether it will be better to call it Web of Lies or Torchwood: Web of Lies.

New Cybermen Pageedit source

I dislike how you have combined the 2 cybermen pages and then created links to the diffrent Cybermen pages. We here at Tardis Index File find these two races to be entirely diffrent. We link "Cybermen" to the Mondas Cybermen because they were te original. I notice that you are he only pearson to even EDIT the new Cyberman page, and I also notice that the 3 pages have been edited so that only those of high othority can edit them. I would be greatful if you returned the Cybermen pages to the way they were.OttselSpy25 03:30, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Those are good points, and after looking over the pages, I think your changes are for the best.

Past tenseedit source

Please remember that when adding content to pages, write it in the past tense, as it is then in-universe. Thanks. --Revan\Talk 10:01, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if I have confused you, I wasn't claiming that it was a breach of policy, rather a peronal preferences. I don't think that any of the Cybermen should be unfairly represented as the lead image. People can see that on the in depth pages. There is no real advantage to saying, this is a Cyberman, when it is just one variant. I'm sure people won't mind scrolling the mouse wheel to see the type they want :) ----Skittles the hog--Talk 10:56, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll whip one up. Good thinking, top marks and all that.----Skittles the hog--Talk 10:58, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Video policy violationedit source

You are in violation of tardis:video policy. You have uploaded videos that have not come from official sources. Your video of the Miracle Day opening credits, for instance, comes from DWTV, a fan organisation. It needs to come from the official channel of an entity with copyright interests in — or national broadcasting rights to — the programme‚ such as the BBC, BBC Worldwide, Starz, Space, etc. Our video policy is extremely strict and carries with it harsh punishments, up to and including permanent bans. Obviously, since you're a wikia level admin, I don't have that power over you. But it's really important that we all toe the line on this policy, or else we'll be awash with entire episodes of DW hosted on the site. This ruling arose from finding that we were, indeed, hosting huge 10-minute chunks of bootleg digital captures of copyrighted videotape material in the past — a situation to which we cannot return. So it may be harsh to be so black and white about things, but it's effectively kept us on the more comfortable side of the street for a while now.

No worries. You got 2 out of 3 right. The Web of Lies promos were fine, cause they were from Starz directly.

Backgroundedit source

Yep, it should be Miracle Day now. Hence the opening of Tardis:Background image submissions. Should've done it slightly earlier, but then again, we haven't had any real info or images to work with yet. Hopefully some people will step forward with something soon.

Promo imagesedit source

I removed the image of the Lois Habiba page because we have decided not to include promotional images on our in-universe articles. The policy is written down in our manual of style and on the forums. All images on in-universe articles should be screenshots. Thanks. Mini-mitch\talk 20:58, July 10, 2011 (UTC)

Just saying hi :)edit source

Haven't seen you around for a bit. Hope everything's okay and that you're enjoying Miracle Day.

Torchwood team stuffedit source

Just wanted to make sure you understood that, although I'm arguing forcefully in Forum:New Torchwood Team, I don't consider the question of what to do with Torchwood (team) over. The move of Torchwood to Torchwood (TV series) is an old niggle which predates the forum discussion. The discussion merely reminded me that I had to do that disambiguation chore. So I'll wait with interest to see what happens when the main thrust of that thread before doing anything with Torchwood team.

Christmas cheeredit source

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
