Peter McKinstry has been a concept artist/design assistant for Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. His involvement in the BBC Wales Doctor Who universe began on series 2 of the parent programme, and has continued through the 2010 series. He has designed things such as the Carrionites, the telescope and the Host's cage from Tooth and Claw, and the SS Madame De Pompadour and eye camera from The Girl in the Fireplace. Some of his drawings have actually made it into finished episodes, as with Edwin Bracewell's Dalek blueprints and the "Dalek Victory" poster seen in Victory of the Daleks. He was also responsible for a widespread rumour that the Robot Yeti were going to return to Doctor Who, because he put up on his website some artwork of a Yeti that had been done for Doctor Who DVD Files. Due to the fact that McKinistry added the design to his website at almost the end of series 5, some fans assumed it meant the Yeti would appear in the 2010 Christmas special.[1] They didn't.
He has had some public exposure thanks to his work on Doctor Who. He was a participant to the DVD commentary for The Satan Pit. He also played a Cyberman in one episode, due to an extra being sick.[source needed]
Outside the television programme proper, he also provided the front cover illustrations for The Darksmith Legacy series, and has done several cutaway illustrations for GE Fabbri's Doctor Who DVD Files magazines.
McKinstry has also worked on the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and its sequel.
