Laydon was a member of the Anti-Antigravity Activists from Earth in the 453rd century, who was believed by the rulers of Sky City at first, to be a saboteur and so was hunted by the city's police force – the Cops. Laydon was actually an inventor and the AAA's activities were aimed at providing a more efficient and cheaper means of power for the city, in spite of the belief that the city's rulers wanted to maintain the high taxes they fixed. Laydon's main invention was an advanced gravity converter, ten times more powerful than the anti-gravity generator that Sky City used.
