- Film actor Michael York is born. Centuries from now, his genetic material will be used to create a Reprise of D'Artagnan in Europa ("Managra").
- 1st July - 4 November - Allied forces halt, then reverse the advance of Axis forces into Egypt at two separate battles near the town of El-Alamein. The Doctor is wounded at one of those battles ("The Sea Devils").
- November - Reports of vampires emerge out of Roumania ("The Curse of Fenric").
- 24th December - Oskar Steinmann supervises the first test of a "flying bomb" at Peenemunde("Just War").
