Police forces are government organisations charged with the responsibility of maintaining law and order. Owing to his renegade status and his penchant for arriving at a particular place and time just as trouble is starting, the Doctor has had numerous encounters with police and other officers of the law on his travels.

  • When a policeman approached the TARDIS, the Doctor hung a sign reading "out of order" and on the front of his ship. The policeman moved on after seeing the sign. (DW: The War Machines)
