- 1 - Mary Shelley, a former companion of the Eighth Doctor, died. The Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith met a Reprise of Mary Shelley in Europa. (MA: Managra)
May to October
- The Great Exhibition was held in London. The Fifth Doctor attempted to take Tegan Jovanka and Nyssa to this event but the TARDIS landed instead at Heathrow Airport in 1982. (DW: Time-Flight)
- On 12 September, the Fifth Doctor arrived in London and prevented the Klathi from destroying the city. (DWM: Claws of the Klathi)
- Later in his personal timeline, the Eighth Doctor and his companions Charley Pollard and C'rizz visited the Great Exhibition, where Charley met and befriended the elderly Duke of Wellington. (BFA: Other Lives)

- The 30.86 m schooner-yacht America, representing the New York Yacht Club, crossed the Atlantic Ocean in seventeen days on its way to the Isle of Wight, where it won the British Hundred Guinea yacht race, thereafter known as the America's Cup Race, on 22nd August. (DW: Enlightenment)
Late November-Early December
- Jackson Lake, having recently relocated his family to London, encountered the Cybermen, an event that resulted in the death of his wife, the abduction of his son by the Cybermen and the temporary replacement of his memories and personality with that of the Doctor, leading him to believe that he had undergone a regeneration. In the coming weeks Lake investigated the Cybermen, dubbed a hot-air balloon the TARDIS, and recruited a companion, Rosita. (DW: The Next Doctor)
