Guide (The Chase)
This guide attended to tourists at New York City's Empire State Building's 86th floor outdoor observation deck, and pointed out various landmarks to be seen. (TV: The Chase episode 3, "Flight Through Eternity")
Among his guests one day in 1966 was Alabama native, Morton Dill. The guide led his group around to another side of the deck, although Dill remained behind to gaze at the scenery. They returned to find Dill pounding on the deck and loudly rambling about "a trick". The guide went to summon a policeman, asking a large man to watch Dill in his absence and try to keep Dill from committing suicide. (TV: The Chase episode 3, "Flight Through Eternity")
The guide had narrowly missed the brief appearances of the TARDIS, the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, Vicki Pallister, a Dalek time machine, and a blue-bumped Dalek. (TV: The Chase episode 3, "Flight Through Eternity")
Misstatements
The guide referred to elevators on which tourists rode as taking seven minutes. The observation deck had always been served by express elevators to the 80th floor, requiring less than one minute, and either a second elevator to the 86th floor, or an optional six-storey stair climb. The waiting lines for the elevators, however, frequently lasted more than seven minutes.
He asserted that a person falling from the observation deck would reach the ground in thirty seconds; the approximately 320-metre decent would actually last less than nine seconds.
