On 11 October, the following important behind-the-scenes events were known to have occurred:
- 1963 - Director Christopher Barry outlined his initial thoughts on serial B to script editor David Whitaker. At this stage they thought they were making a story called The Mutants, but posterity would remember the story as The Daleks — the story that turned Doctor Who into "must see TV".
- 2013 - The BBC announced in a press conference that nine missing episodes from the Second Doctor era had been found — the then-lost final five episodes of The Enemy of the World and four out of the five lost episodes of The Web of Fear.
