Template talk:Companions of the Eleventh Doctor
Rory
Okay, apparently several episodes with different settings feature a character named Rory, played by Arthur Darvill, who appears to be a companion. But I would support leaving this off til a official announcement. --Golden Monkey 00:37, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
Work?
How exactly does this template work? We're trying to get something liek this on the Animal Crossing wiki, but it's not working. I mean, I copied the source into our Sandbox, but the 'Show'/'Hide' thing doesnt appear. -- Dragonfree 11:28, April 4, 2010 (UTC)
Kazran Sardick and Abigail Pettigrew
I left them under the heading of see also, as they are not really companions but are in the same category as Jackson Lake and Rositia. Mini-mitch 19:45, 27 December, 2010 (UTC)
Possible merging of Auton Rory?
Day of the Moon includes dialogue confirming that Rory Williams remembers his time as an Auton. That would seem to make them the same character. I propose removing "Auton Rory Williams" from the single-adventure category and just leaving the main Rory Williams listed. It's almost like listing young Amy separately, really (and a case could be made for the alternate timeline Amelia featured in The Big Bang using the same criteria as Auton Rory). 68.146.78.43 15:00, May 1, 2011 (UTC)
Any reason why Canton was removed?
I added Canton Delaware to the list of Single Adventure companions, but someone removed it. Canton was with the Doctor for a single adventure, and traveled in the TARDIS several times during said adventure.
Comic book section needs to be added
IDW's Doctor Who #8 ends with Kevin - a sentient robotic dinosaur introduced in the When Worlds Collide story arc - joining the TARDIS crew. IDW has confirmed he will be serving as a companion in at least issue #9. So since we include comic strip/comic book companions it's time to start one for the comics. 68.146.71.145 04:04, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
- Kevin also appears in the short strip "Your Destiny Awaits" which chronicles several adventures he takes part in following When Worlds Collide, so that pretty much confirms him as full companion, Frobisher effect or not. 68.146.71.145 13:23, August 26, 2011 (UTC)
Why is Craig Owens not included?
Craig appears in two episodes and is exclusive to the 11th Doctor's incarnation.
- Moreover, it is implied in TV:Closing Time that he is a companion, a fact that Craig's page on the official site backs up. I think he is definitely a companion of the Eleventh Doctor. Dakovski talk to me 04:40, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
- He is listed as a companion on the pages TV: The Lodger and TV: Closing Time. So isn't he supposed to be considered a multi-story companion? He should definitely be added to the template. EternalMeister Talk 12:21, October 1, 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. Maybe it's time template was unlocked so people can add Craig (as well as begin a comic strip/book section for Kevin). Also, if there's a Single-Adventure section, then we need to include the companions introduced in A Good Man Goes to War (at the very least Vastra). 68.146.80.110 21:36, October 1, 2011 (UTC)

To answer the original question, yes, I think Craig Owens should be included. The template should not be unlocked as that would just result in any old rubbish being added to it and discussions like this would just be bypassed. I completely disagree with the idea that Vastra or any of the AGMGW-exclusive characters being considered companions. They just turned up, screwed around for a bit, failed to further the plot and then ran off home.--Skittles the hog - talk 15:24, October 5, 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Craig at the very least needs to be added, as does Dorium Maldovar. I'm also very open to the idea of Vastra being added, though perhaps under a heading of "narratively ambiguous", much like we handle Chang Lee on the Eighth Doctor's template. Thanks to The Wedding of River Song, we've now definitively got an Eleventh Doctor who's lived for very long time of more than 200 years. I think we can assume that he had some sort of companion-like relationship with Vastra in that unexplored gap, otherwise she wouldn't be calling him "old friend". I would agree with Skittles, though, in preventing the Sontaran nurse from being on this list, because there's no real sense that he's doing anything more than serving out a sentence of the Doctor's choosing.
czechout<staff /> ☎ ✍ 17:09: Wed 05 Oct 2011- Kevin (robot) also needs to be added as the IDW comic book series explicitly establishes him as a companion; although technically he appears as one in only two stories (he was more a monster in the first story), the IDW Annual story "Your Destiny Awaits" catalogues a number of adventures Kevin had with Rory, Amy and the Doctor, so there's no room for ambiguity. 68.146.80.110 16:17, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
- I came here specifically to add Craig. Admins, please do it. Sean Fennel talk to me 21:23, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
Nefertiti, Riddell and Brian
I think these three should be considered single adventure companions (with Brian being a possible candidate for multiple adventure, given the preview for next week's episode). And while I'm at it, I'd also consider Canton Everett Delaware III a single adventure companion.
It seems to me that the conflict that arises when discussing who is and who isn't a companion, particularly when talking about the revived series, is the divide between those who believe it should be determined by how much a person contributes to an adventure and/or whether they travel in the TARDIS, versus whether their actor is credited in the opening credits or not. I'm in the former camp personally. And I realize that this may be an oversimplification, as it's a complex issue, but I just wanted to bring it up, as it's definitely relevant this season. Memnarc ☎ 04:29, September 16, 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, this is complex, but it should be addressed. I don't believe that taking a single ride in the TARDIS and sharing an adventure automatically makes you a companion; if so, then Canton needs to be on this template. IMO, "companion" implies a travelling relationship longer than a single trip or adventure. --Bold Clone 05:04, September 16, 2012 (UTC)
Clara
Is it time yet to add Clara to the template? She is official now, eh?--Pookywb ☎ 03:59, December 26, 2012 (UTC)
- Done, though at this point in time, it is only a single episode. The fact the Doctor wanted her to travel with him and gave her a TARDIS key, makes her a companion. MM/Want to talk? 14:30, December 26, 2012 (UTC)
Update: The three versions of Clara we know have all been merged into one article, so I think it's time to move her into the 'Multi-episode' section.--TARDIS2468 ☎ 08:19, April 6, 2013 (UTC)
New companions
Someone needs to add Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright to the "comics" section, as per Hunters of the Burning Stone. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 01:53, February 9, 2013 (UTC)
Also, there's a new multi-story companion in the Doctor Who Adventures comic called Decky Flamboon. User:TARDIS2468 (talk.) 09:56, February 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps we should wait and see with regard to Hunters. Wait until the end of the comic to make sure they're not psychic projections or something. The comics often like to do a big "ta-da!" at the end.
- I've added Decky Flamboon to the templates. --Tangerineduel / talk 17:07, February 18, 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I consider that quite a bit speculation. There's quite a bit of explanation to say why they're there, and they do leave the dream world with him to the city. Even if they are "mental projections" they are still companions. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 17:15, February 18, 2013 (UTC)
- What I'm trying to say Ian and Barbara clearly are not mental projections and that even if they are they're still companions who should be added to the infobox.. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 19:47, February 18, 2013 (UTC)
Alright, the comic has concluded, it was really them. Could we please add the info now? OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 23:06, July 2, 2013 (UTC)
Update?
Would it be possible to update the template? Specifically, it still lists Clara Oswald under single-episode companions, and that's clearly no longer the case... Also, I'm noticing that Vastra is on here, but not Jenny or Strax - is there a reason behind that? And finally (sorry), has there ever been any discussion about adding Queen Nefertiti or John Riddell to the list of single episode companions?TARDIStraveler ☎ 11:19, April 19, 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed. Can a mod get on this please? Memnarc ☎ 04:28, April 29, 2013 (UTC)
- Clara has now appeared in The Bells of St. John, The Rings of Akhaten, Cold War, Hide, Journey... and The Crimson Horror (as well as sort-of in The Snowmen. That's six (and a half) stories she's appeared in - definitely warrants as a multi-story companion. 86.174.188.161talk to me 12:11, May 6, 2013 (UTC)
- Also, Nefertiti and Riddel should be added to single episode; Strax and Jenny should probably be added judging by their roles in The Crimson Horror (TV story). 86.174.188.161talk to me 08:45, May 7, 2013 (UTC)
- We also need to move Dorium Maldovar to the multiple list. What exactly is the litmus test for appearing in this box? Because we have a lot of people in Category:Eleventh Doctor companions that aren't in this box. Anoted ☎ 13:52, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Frequent / Occasional
While it's good to see more people have been added to the template now, I think the 'multi-episode' section needs to be divided into two halves: One for companions who frequently travel with the Eleventh Doctor, and one for companions who occasionally travel with him:
Frequent: Amy, Rory, Clara
Occasional: River, Craig, Dorium, Jenny, Vastra, Strax
I also think Canton should be moved to 'single-episode': The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon is officially counted as a single story after all.
Just throwing it out there.

Artie and Angie Maitland
Should Artie and Angie Maitland be added to the single-episode companions considering he took them to the Hedgewick's World of Wonders in Nightmare in Silver? Botswana41 ☎ 14:47, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
They seem more like companions than several of the listed companions. 71.162.226.240talk to me 01:43, December 27, 2013 (UTC)
Barbara and Ian
Surely we can add Barbara and Ian Chesterton to the original-to-comics companions due to their appearance in Hunters of the Burning Stone. 86.144.26.246talk to me 13:33, August 21, 2013 (UTC)
In Need of Updates
I'm not sure how you'd categorize companions that are original to one medium but appear as companions solely in another such as Ian, Barbara, and Christina de Souza who are not listed on this template as Eleven's companions (but several people have asked to add them). Maybe change the "single-episode" to "single-adventure," as it is on the Tenth Doctor's template?

Shouldn't the link to Brian Williams go to the actual page the character from Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three currently belongs to, Brian Williams (Dinosaurs on a Spaceship)? -- Tybort (talk page) 00:31, December 13, 2013 (UTC)
Addition of Handles
We need to add Handles. He was shown to go on multiple travels in the TARDIS as well as staying with the Doctor on Trenzalore for over 300 years. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 04:03, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed. Handles seems to have spent way more time with the Doctor than Rory's dad, at least. Jlk7e ☎ 07:17, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
- Well, Handles is a companion and thus has been added to the relevant categories, including Category:Eleventh Doctor companions. The template has been added to his page, but his name still needs to be added into this template. I'm sure this will be done today. --IrasCignavojo ☎ 14:01, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
Locked?
I was wondering why this page is locked. It's the only Companions of the X Doctor page that's locked, including the Twelfth Doctor. Last time I looked, I thought it might be because Eleven was the then-current Doctor, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. There are still several updates that haven't been added yet and they could easily be done if the page were unlocked. Mewiet ☎ 08:16, February 26, 2014 (UTC)

Can Olga be changed to Olga Bordmann? That is how she is listed in Plague of the Cybermen (novel). ----Ebyabe (talk) 22:34, August 31, 2014 (UTC)

Canton
Canton is listed as companion, but in The Impossible Astronaut page, he is not, Just Amy, Rory and River. If he is a companion, he should be on the Impossible Astronaut page. If he isn't, he should not be on this page.
ARC and Amy
ARC is definitely a companion, right? he should be added.
Amy Johnson could be a companion because she travelled in the TARDIS and had at least two adventures in the TARDIS.
Living History
Could Winston Churchill be added to this template now that he's travelled in the Tardis? Also, Kazran Sardick should be put in the multi-story companion category. The Champion of Time ☎ 16:21, May 2, 2016 (UTC)
