Vichy government

The Vichy government, named after its' seat, the town of Vichy, operated in World War II France, specifically the Zone Libre or free zone in southern France. They were, essentially, Nazi collaborationists.
The Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright, Jamie McCrimmon and several members of the French Resistance had to be extremely wary of the Vichy secret police, the Milice when travelling in France in February 1944. (AUDIO: Resistance)
