Delayed on Oculus Quest

So the Oculus Quest version has been delayed for a month, and there was apparently no other official communication about it besides a tweet reply from Maze Theory. https://www.vrfocus.com/2019/10/oculus-quest-version-of-doctor-who-the-edge-of-time-coming-december/ And when you go check on the Quest shop, it is indeed absent, despite still being listed in the launch trailer. Validity

Hi, I am not familiar with the policy arround it but do we need a debate to put this story as valid. It's just as linear as the Adventure Games with the Eleventh Doctor (maybe even more) so it seems a no-brainer to me.RingoRoadagain 15:24, November 16, 2019 (UTC)

No debate is needed because we've already had the debate about this kind of game/story. I'll look up the relevant discussion(s) later and get back to you. Shambala108 17:32, November 16, 2019 (UTC)
Best to mostly wait for the admin above to bring in the proper threads as citations, but if you're burning to know, I believe the basics is that (being a VR game) The Edge of Time naturally posits that you, the player, are the hero. As such, even if the rest of the story is linear, the identity of the main character is variable, and that's obviously variability enough to declare the story invalid. --Scrooge MacDuck 18:41, November 16, 2019 (UTC)
I hope it's not the reason because, by that logic, You Are the Doctor (audio story) should not be valid.RingoRoadagain 18:49, November 16, 2019 (UTC)
Shmabala will probably explain it better than me when she comes back, but it seems to me that as the title states, You Are the Doctor never actually leaves any doubt as to the main character's identity. It puts you in the Doctor's shoes, but doesn't posit that the Doctor looks like you, let alone is you. Whereas if I, Scrooge MacDuck, played The Edge of Time, the narrative conceit would be that I, myself, this human being, have been given a mission by the Doctor. I'm sure if the game (even still with a first-person POV) was titled You Are Amy Pond, it'd be fine. --Scrooge MacDuck 18:59, November 16, 2019 (UTC)
Ok, here's the first example I found, but I know there's better reasoning elsewhere, which I am still trying to find: Talk:The Saviour of Time (video game). More to come... Shambala108 01:00, November 17, 2019 (UTC)
For games with a multi-choice ending I understand and agree not putting them as valid (although Flip-Flop (audio story) is). I can also understand a mushy middle such as gamebooks, pinballs, skype bots or RPG campaigns and so on not being valid (although You Are the Doctor (audio story) is).
But when the game is so linear --having a fixed ending and no branching that I know of-- I don't really understand why it being a first-person POV should make it invalid. To me, the only difference with Destiny of the Doctors (video game) is that the VR one is non descriptive on the matter of who the player character is.RingoRoadagain 12:01, November 17, 2019 (UTC)
For whatever it's worth, one of the many sources that I have listed on The Howling, though not BBC itself, says that the game is basically a playable TV story. --DCLM 12:20, November 17, 2019 (UTC)
I don't see why it has to be seen that "you" are the character, when it could simply just be an unnamed human following the very linear storyline. It's exactly what was done with GAME: Don't Blink's playable character. It seems like an inconsistent rule that, as I stated, has been bent before. The Edge of Time can easily be made valid in the same way. StevieGLiverpool 01:02, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Sorry to reopen an old thread but considering The Edge of Reality is coming out, I figured it was appropriate. I have to agree with StevieGLiverpool here, it’s obvious the game is meant to be taken as valid as any other game or expanded universe source. I don’t think just because you play a featureless unidentifiable protagonist should mean it isn’t valid. I know I don’t have any right to speak here but it feels like a weird policy to me. Time Lord Victorious

How does this game's entry in the Time Lord Victorious effect its validity going forward?BananaClownMan 19:11, September 22, 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you're asking? At any rate I doubt a TLVed-up version would remove the elements that make the current version invalid — mostly, that you're playing as "you", not as a specific DWU character, so it's kind of breaking Rule 4 by way of not having a completely coherent universe at all.
But what exactly does "the game's entry" into TLV entail? Is there a new version that differs significantly in narrative terms from the original release? If so I'd argue the new version probably deserves its own page. But it'd be an equally invalid story. --Scrooge MacDuck 19:20, September 22, 2020 (UTC)
I'm the one that edited in the Edge of Time news to the TLV page and have been keeping up with it. All that's been said is there will be updates related to TLV. "Some of this will be all-new story content, some will be traditional updates, and some will add new features and items that relate to the wider story." Since then there's been one release from The BBC Studios Press Office here and IGN has discussed a similar issue a bit here. Basically we need to wait until October to have any clue what's going on. (My guess is that the upcoming game from Kaigan has a decent argument for being valid, but the updates to Edge of Time do not.) Najawin 19:37, September 22, 2020 (UTC)
Commenting for future readers to note that the event was entirely unhelpful to knowing what the updates to Edge of Time will be like (but probably not anything like something that will make it valid), but the Kaigan game is almost certainly invalid. Najawin 07:15, October 14, 2020 (UTC)
