Deforestation was the process of rapidly culling trees in an area, causing significant ecological damage.
Some time before 2181, the Oil Wars on Earth made fuel very scarce. Individuals began looking for alternative fuel sources, making deforestation such a major problem that nations began imposing penalties on any unauthorised killing of trees. Dusan was sentenced to death by defenestration for cutting down a tree in Prague. (PROSE: Suspension and Disbelief)
