Kingdom

Multiple Earth nations "started out as separate little kingdoms that gradually unified", including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Spain. In the Game of Napoleon and Wellington, these nations were conquered by France and thus incorporated into Napoléon Bonaparte's World Empire. When the Empire collapsed upon Napoleon's death, they were discreetly encouraged by the Players to "revert to type", spliting up into separate mini-states, with the United Kingdom splitting into the separate kingdoms of England, Scotland and Wales. During the Third Crusade, King Richard I of England promised Prince Saphadin his own kingdom as well as the Frankish kingdom in return for marrying his sister, Princess Joanna. However, Joanna refused to marry the Prince, telling Richard that the Pope would never permit her marriage to "that infidel". (TV: The Crusade)
