Drone Dalek (Victory of the Daleks)
The first Drone Dalek of the New Dalek Paradigm was created as one of five new Dalek types by the Progenitor aboard their last surviving ship above Earth in 1941 when the last three Daleks tricked the Eleventh Doctor into allowing them to activate the Progenitor device. Like the Strategist Dalek, the Drone destroyed the last of the older Daleks for being impure. The five new Daleks escaped through a time corridor and went on to rebuild their empire, (TV: Victory of the Daleks) forming a new Dalek Supreme Council with the original Drone commanding the Dalek armies. They remained its ultimate leaders until the institution of the Parliament of the Daleks with its Prime Minister. (PROSE: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe)
After the decision-making of the Parliament was crippled by their forgetting the Doctor, (TV: Asylum of the Daleks) the original Paradigm Daleks returned to the leadership of the Empire. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe)
Behind the scenes
Prop
As with its fellow new Daleks, the Drone Dalek in Victory of the Daleks was depicted with a specially created prop. This prop was later used to portray the Drone Dalek in The Pandorica Opens.
On 21 April 2010, by which point the Strategist and Scientist had been modified to create the Stone Daleks in The Big Bang, the Drone made a public appearance in Sheffield alongside the Eternal and the Supreme to promote the video game City of the Daleks, forming the same Dalek trio which appeared in The Pandorica Opens.[1][2]
Other matters
- Whilst the appearance of a Red Drone among the three representatives of the Pandorica Alliance in The Pandorica Opens would match the senior role of the original Red Drone established by Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe, the two appearances have never been definitively identified as being of the same individual Dalek.
