James Stonehouse
James Stonehouse was a resident of 1820 Liverpool, who prided himself on having a more "robust and rational" mind than Joseph Williamson. He questioned Williamson insistently about the purpose of the mysterious Tunnels whose digging Williamson was sinking so many resources into, but Williamson, while insisting that his tunnels did have a rational purpose, refused to reveal it to Stonehouse. James Stonehouse was a contemporary of Joseph Williamson who explored his tunnels extensively and made sketches and accounts of them which have proved to be valuable historical documents in studies of Williamson's life.[1] The historical Stonehouse, was born in Liverpool, on the 4th of June in 1769 or ’70 and lived into his 90s. Stonehouse toured the tunnels just five years after Williamson died. He searched and made sketches and a map of tunnels in 1845 and published findings in two books: Recollections of Old Liverpool (1863) and The Streets of Liverpool (1869) [2].
