• Film actor Michael York is born. Centuries from now, his genetic material will be used to create a Reprise of D'Artagnan in Europa ("Managra").

• 1st July - 4 November - Allied forces halt, then reverse the advance of Axis forces into Egypt at two separate battles near the town of El-Alamein. The Doctor is wounded at one of those battles ("The Sea Devils").

• November - Reports of vampires emerge out of Roumania ("The Curse of Fenric").

• 26th November - The motion picture Casablanca is releasd. The film would become one of the icons of Earth cinema. A song featured in the film, "As Time Goes By", would become a favorite of the Doctor. (DW: The Happiness Patrol)

• 24th December - Oskar Steinmann supervises the first test of a "flying bomb" at Peenemunde("Just War").

• 28 - Robin Phillips, who played Altos in "The Keys of Marinus," is born in Haslemere, Surrey, England.

• 24 - Lynda Baron, who provided the singing narration for "The Gunfighters" and played Captain Wrack in "Enlightenment," is born in Manchester, England.

• 28 - Ilona Rodgers, who played Carol Richmond in "The Sensorites," is born in Harrogate, England.

June

• 18 - Beatle Paul McCartney, who appeared as himself in "The Chase," is born in Liverpool.

November

• 29 - Michael Craze, who portrayed companion Ben Jackson, is born in Cornwall, England.
