Overview

The series will consist of just one continuous story, delivered over 5 consecutive nights. The series will have a new producer: Peter Bennett. Veteran Doctor Who Director Euros Lyn will direct the entire series. The first episode will be written by Russell T Davies, who is also writing the overall story arc. One episode will be written by James Moran and two episodes by newcomer John Fay. Production on this series will start in August 2008 for expected broadcast in Spring 2009, when it will air on BBC 1 in a post-watershed slot.

The only confirmed cast members for Series 3 John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd. The ending of the Doctor Who episode Journey's End suggested that Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke) might go to work for Torchwood. As of July 2008 their involvement has not been confirmed; indeed, the announced casting of Agyeman in a major role in a new series for ITV entitled Law & Order: London, which is also expected to enter production in August, will likely preclude her involvement.

At the San Diego Comic Con in July 2008, Julie Gardner confirmed that the character of Toshiko Sato really is deceased, which likely precludes actress Naoko Mori from appearing in Series 3.

The name of the five part series was revealed in Torchwood Magazine as Children of Earth.
