The Vegans were a race of satyr-like humanoids from Vega, physically characterised by reddish-gold skin, hairy legs, large eyes and long noses. (TV: The Monster of Peladon) They had infrared vision and a powerful build, ideally suiting them to mining. (PROSE: Legacy) Philosophically, they were a very practical race who eschewed superstition and were quite happy to use the latest technology, rather than their own formidable strength, to clear a mine. The entire race may have been given over to mining, at least according to the Vegans who were brought in to help mine Trisilicate on Peladon. (TV: The Monster of Peladon) This notion was seemingly confirmed by a Vegan sent in to help excavate the Diadem on Pakha. (PROSE: Legacy)
