- New Zealand actor, Russell Crowe, auditioned for the role of The Eighth Doctor. He very much wanted the role as he has been a life long fan of the show, his father is a huge fan of the show and his grandfather was, his oldest son Charlie is also a fan of the new series. Crowe, who had expressed interest in playing the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh Doctor and has expressed interest in playing the Twelth and Thirteenth Doctor stated that if he ever lands the role, it would mean so much to him and his family that there would be a very big and very emotional celebration, even bigger then the celebration he had when he won the Oscar.
