Following the success of the two performances in Melbourne on 4 February 2012, The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular returned to Australia for a further series of performances. It was performed nine times from 15-21 December 2012 at the Sydney Opera House.

Overview

The Metropolitan Orchestra was conducted by Ben Foster, with Alex Kingston and Mark Williams as hosts. The Metropolitan Orchestra was accompanied by the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs for the choir elements of the music. Antoinette Halloran (soprano) and Daniel Bonic-Goodwin (Counter-tenor) provided performances where single vocals were required.

All musical pieces were accompanied by clips from the episodes that the music was from.

There were sixteen individual pieces in all. Seven pieces were performed, followed by a twenty-minute interval, then another nine pieces.

Some pieces followed the names and themes of their CD release counterparts, while others were extended pieces that used an overarching theme or initial name and piece to lead into other pieces. The music was primarily from Series 5, Series 6 and the first half of Series 7. The "This is Gallifrey" piece was from Series 3 of Doctor Who.
