Jacques Fournier served in the French army, going to Bosnia with UN peacekeeping forces and picking up the English language fluently there. He suffered from post-traumatic stress and saw a counsellor, Dr Sophie Rousseau, upon leaving the army.

Fournier became a chauffeur. In April 2004, his wife noticed that he was in a trance-like state. That day, he crashed and died, whilst passenger Neil Redmond was crippled. Jack Harkness spoke to his wife about the incident. (AUDIO: Uncanny Valley)
