The National Lottery was a public lottery played in the United Kingdom.

H.P. Wilson collected money from the employees of Henrik's, who bought shared lottery tickets in March, 2005. Months earlier the syndicate's numbers came up but H.P. Wilson had been stealing the cash rather than buying the tickets. The syndicate never found out. (PROSE: Rose) When Rose Tyler came to deliver that week's money to Wilson, she was attacked by Autons and saved by the Ninth Doctor, who informed her that Wilson had been killed. (TV: Rose)

The Deffry Dale teacher whom John Smith replaced won the lottery without entering. The ticket had been posted through her door at midnight. (TV: School Reunion)

Due to Carmen's precognitive psychic powers, she and her husband won £10 every lottery, twice a week. (TV: Planet of the Dead)

Geoff Noble gave a pound to the Tenth Doctor, who used the money to purchase a lottery ticket which he gave to Donna as a wedding present a few years after Geoff's death. The ticket had the winning numbers in a triple roll-over draw that occurred soon after her wedding. (TV: The End of Time)

In 2050, a winning jackpot of £1 billion was reported. A man known only as "Mr Smith" won the jackpot, and the news asked people if they had any answers about his identity. (TV: The Bounty Hunter)
