Lazarus I

The first Lazarus was a man who lived in Earth's first century.

He became sick and his sister sent for his friend Yeshua who was known to perform miracles. Yeshua arrived too late and Lazarus had already passed away and had been reborn in the City of the Saved. When the miracle of resurrection was performed it split Lazarus in two with the original version remaining in the City and another version returning to life. The version of Lazarus who remained in the City would be placed in a deme at 67 Armistice Street in the Calafia District alongside Akroates, Moody, Faber, Brianna, Sophia, and Jane. (PROSE: Akroates [+]Loading...["Akroates (short story)"]) He would eventually leave his deme and join the police force in the Drausinus District where he would investigate individuals - known as Bruisers - who defied the District's strict laws prohibiting discussion about death and pain.

He came into contact with Rosa who was an experienced make-up artist with connections to the District's illicit underworld. With assistance from his colleagues Freya and Bartholomew, Lazarus went undercover with a fake tattooed bruise to attract Rosa's attention. Following a sexual encounter with Rosa, Lazarus' mind was opened and he began to feel the complex emotions that made pain so appealing. (PROSE: Bruises [+]Loading...["Bruises (short story)"])
