Series 5 of The Sarah Jane Adventures began airing on CBBC on 3 October 2011.
On 4 March 2010, the BBC announced that it had officially commissioned both a 4th and 5th series of the spin-off.[1] Part of the series was planned to film in 2010 alongside Series 4[2] and it was later announced that half the series had been completed as planned.[3]
With the death of Elisabeth Sladen in April 2011[4], the BBC announced that no new episodes will be made[5]. Three stories (six episodes) of Series 5 were completed[6], and a are presently airing as an abbreviated final season.

Notes
- Luke Smith was originally planned to make an appearance in the final story of the series but due to the death of Elizabeth Sladen prior to the series' completion, it is likely that The Man Who Never Was will mark the final appearance of Luke Smith.[3]

Rumours
- The Shopkeeper will return. (DWM 429)[3]This was true. The Shopkeeper reappeared again in Sky.
- They will introduce a new character into the gang.[7]This is true. Sky joined at the end of the first episode.
- A Sontaran will appear.[8]
- One story will involve “The mystery of the Man Who Never Was.”[3]This seems likely due to the title of the finale being 'The Man Who Never Was'.
- Clyde and Rani will get married in The Man Who Never Was episode 2.[2]
