Series 3 of The Sarah Jane Adventures ran between 15 October 2009 and 20 November 2009. It starred Elizabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Tommy Knight as Luke Smith, Daniel Anthony as Clyde Langer, Anjli Mohindra as Rani Chandra, Alexander Armstrong as Mr Smith and John Leeson as K9 Mark IV. The series opened with Prisoner of the Judoon and concluded with The Gift.

Overview[[edit] | [edit source]]

It consisted of six stories and twelve episodes. In a change of broadcast format, two episodes aired each week, on Thursday and Friday, meaning the entire series aired over a six-week period, with a complete storyline told each week.

A minor change to the opening was made: Before the title sequence, Clyde would narrate the basic premise of the series over a montage of scenes.

Among notable appearances this series, K9 Mark IV appeared in six of the twelve episodes and David Tennant appeared as the Tenth Doctor in the two-part story The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith which aired in late October. Thanks in part to Tennant's appearance, the series scored higher-than-average ratings for children's programming, and also consistently scored high Appreciation Index ratings from viewers.

As with the parent series, The Sarah Jane Adventures began being produced in high-definition in 2009. However, the 3D elements of the opening titles are upscaled from standard-definition - only the text elements, such as Elisabeth Sladen's credit, the episode title, and the "The" and "Adventures" from the logo, are rendered in true HD.[source needed]
