• American gunfighter and lawman Wild Bill Hickok (1837-1876) reached the height of his notoriety. In the 20th century, he would be commemorated as a folk and western movie hero. In 1999, an employee of a hospital in San Francisco obtained a Wild Bill Hickok costume to wear at a New Year's Eve party. It was appropriated by the newly regenerated Eighth Doctor, who adopted it as his standard mode of dress. (DW: Doctor Who)
