Roger Colbert was temporal secretary to the Abbot of Amboise. He was part of the conspiracy to assassinate Admiral Gaspard de Coligny in August 1572. He later told the Abbot and Marshal Tavannes that the assassination attempt on de Coligny had failed and de Coligny was only wounded. (TV: The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve)
