Pete's World
- For the parallel world the Doctor visited during Inferno, see Parallel universe (Inferno)
Pete's World was the Doctor's name for an alternate universe and home to its own Cybermen which John Lumic, the head of Cybus Industries, had created.
Overview
It is theorised that Pete's World split from our universe when Queen Victoria still went to Torchwood House in 1879. The Werewolf attacked the house and Queen Victoria was killed in this event. (REF: Doctor Who: Creatures and Demons)
- It is unknown how the Torchwood Institute of Pete's World was created since in our universe, Queen Victoria created the institute after the Werewolf was defeated.
The Doctor derived the name from Pete Tyler, that universe's version of Rose Tyler's father, who in her universe had died in 1987. Time runs ahead in this universe, compared to the Doctor's universe, so that when it was 2007 in the Doctor's universe it was simultaneously three years later in Pete's World. (DW: Doomsday) The year in the main timeline during Lumic's attempted takeover, while it was 2007 in Pete's World, is unknown, but possibly 2004 if the time gap is always 3 years. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen)
Differences
Historical
Pre-Cybermen
- Britain has a President of Great Britain as head of state, instead of a monarch (possibly as the result of the Werewolf attack); he isn't said to be president of Northern Ireland, so there may not be a United Kingdom here. Army blockades and nightly curfews were in place for lower-income areas of London. (DW: "Rise of the Cybermen") The BBC no longer existed after the rise of Cyber-network. (WEB: Cybus Industries website)
- John Lumic's Cybus Industries had a high profile internationally. It created the EarPods; owned Vitex, Pete Tyler's nutritional drink company; owned International Electromatics as a front organisation; and had created CybusNet, the world's premier global information system. Secretly, Lumic had them also create the first Cybermen. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen)
- Even though the Doctor apparently did not exist in this world, Torchwood Institute nevertheless existed. It was operating publicly, with reports it issued being mentioned in the news. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen)
- The planet had a Bio-Convention, whereby Geneva had to approve any creation of new life forms. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen)
- Mexico covered far more of North America, including Arizona, and was referred to abroad by its full name, "United States of Mexico"; it had a Prime Minister, indicating a parliamentary or semi-presidential government. One Prime Minister was assassinated by Lumic. The ownership of Arizona (Mexican territory until 1848) implies a second Mexican-American War, where Mexico recaptured lost territory. (WEB: Cybus Industries website)
- Europe contained the nations New Germany and Czechoslovenia, which contained Free Information Collectives opposed to Cybus Industries. As the name Czechoslovenia is marked with a trademark symbol on the Cybus website, as with every Cybus product mentioned, it appears Cybus owned the country. (WEB: Cybus Industries website)
- South America is unified in a South American State; in 2004 it lost 265,000 people across its borders and south, implied to be due to Cyberman experiments. (TS: Tardisode 5)
Post-Cybermen
- Following the Cybermen incident and the death of the British President, a People's Republic was formed in Britain with Harriet Jones as the new President. (DW: Doomsday)
- Torchwood was infiltrated by Cybermen, who used its technology to cross dimensions. The Institute was taken over by the People's Republic when the full scale of its activities were discovered; Rose Tyler would join it. They would later go on to work at creating other ways of dimensional travel, and sent agents to 'our' Earth during the 'Stolen Earth' crisis. (DW: Turn Left, The Stolen Earth/Journey's End)
- A global war was fought against the Cybermen, who were successfully sealed in their factories. However, debate raged about whether or not the Cybermen (as former humans) could be saved, and this gave the Cyber-race time to cross realities. (DW: Doomsday)
- Due to the mass dimensional travel, ambient temperatures began to rise on Earth; three years on, the ice caps were melting. (DW: Doomsday)
- By the Cybermen's invasion of our world in 2010, at least five million Humans from Pete's World were converted into Cybermen. (DW: Doomsday)
Technological
- Pete's World had a higher level of technological advancement in general. Such advancements included moving and speaking advertisements, and the EarPod devices which downloaded information straight into human brains. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel)
- Zeppelins served as a common means of transportation. Possibly because the Hindenburg disaster, which facilitated the end of the airship era, did not happen in this universe. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel)
- Scientists developed medallions with the power to enable the wearer to cross universes. Later, they invented a dimension cannon for the same purpose. (DW: Doomsday)
- The Cyberman technology itself was created by humans, without any apparent use of Mondas technology. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel)
People
- Peter Tyler, unlike his counterpart, had not died in 1987. Both versions had married Jackie, though this couple did not have children. (Instead they had a dog, Rose.) This version of Pete had made a fortune from his company, Vitex, a health drink company which Cybus owned and for which Pete himself acted as spokesman. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen) This version of Jackie underwent cyber-conversion and died. (DW: The Age of Steel) Pete later met and fell in love with the Jackie Tyler of the Doctor's universe. (DW: Doomsday)
- Ricky, Mickey Smith's counterpart, led the anti-Cybus Industries activists the Preachers with Jake Simmonds, another Preacher. After he died, Mickey decided to stay behind and take his place. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel)
- Deleted scenes from those episodes imply that Ricky and Jake had a romantic relationship.
- Rita-Anne Smith, Rickey's grandmother, did not die of an accident in this world, whereas Mickey's grandmother had. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen)
- Harriet Jones, like her counterpart, had a political career, and her rule as President was referred to as a "golden age". (DW: Doomsday)
- It is possible that the Timelords were not killed because there is no evidence suggesting that Daleks existed.

2007
- 1 February - The Doctor, Rose Tyler and Mickey Smith arrive in a parallel universe that the Doctor's TARDIS was catapulted into while travelling through the Time Vortex. The TARDIS was nearly destroyed by the impact. The Doctor gave away 10 years of his life to repair the TARDIS. The first Cybermen were created by John Lumic and attacked the United Kingdom. The Doctor and his allies eventually teamed-up and destroyed the Cybermen. The Cybermen leader, their Controller (with John Lumic’s brain) perished in the destruction of his cyber-factory. After meeting his parallel counterpart Ricky Smith and being inspired by his example, Mickey decided to stay in the alternate universe to take the late Ricky's place and help fight the Cybermen. (DW: Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel)
Circa 2010
- Mickey Smith returned to his original world and, disguised as a lab technician, investigated the Void Ship kept in Torchwood 1's headquarters. Jake Simmonds and Peter Tyler crossed over into the Doctor's universe to stop the Cyberman invasion. Jackie Tyler meets the other version of Pete Tyler for the first time and decides to stay with him. Mickey Smith, Pete and Jake return to the other world taking Jackie and Rose with them. (DW: Army of Ghosts/Doomsday)
Circa late 2010-11
- Rose joins the parallel version of the Torchwood Institute. Jackie and Pete conceive a child and Mickey apparently takes up residence with the Tylers. (DW: Doomsday)
- Soon after joining Torchwood and several months after Jackie becomes pregnant, Rose began receiving what appeared to be a message from the Doctor. With the support of her family, she travelled to a remote fjord in Norway, Dålig Ulv Stranden, where she was able to briefly make contact with the Doctor. Although she was able to tell him that she loved him, he was unable to respond properly before communication is lost. The exchange leaves Rose and the Doctor emotionally devastated. (DW: Doomsday)
Circa 2011-2014
- At some point after Jackie gives birth to Tony Tyler, Rose and Torchwood begin detecting the onset of "The Darkness": the after-effects of the detonation of the Daleks' reality bomb. They accelerated their work on a "dimension cannon" device capable of transporting Rose back to her original Earth (presumably without the environmental impact of the previous device). This work was successful, and Rose made several trips to her original Earth, where time was running slower and therefore was a couple of years in the past and before the detonation of the reality bomb. It was indicated that the Dimension Cannon may have worked due to the crumbling of the walls of reality as Rose said that it hadn't worked before and the weakening may have allowed a traveller to pass through the walls. The device was also capable of measuring timelines and showed that they all converged on Donna Noble. (DW: multiple episodes Series 4)
- After defeating the Daleks and preventing the reality bomb from detonating, the Doctor returned Rose and Jackie to the parallel Earth. Also left behind was the Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor, who began a relationship with Rose. Due to the disarming of the Reality Bomb by Donna Noble, The Darkness never occured at all and this universe was saved from destruction. (DW: Journey's End)
- *Jackie does mention that Pete is on the "nursery run"; the child being at nursery school would place this at least 3 years after the birth, either 2013 or 2014.
