Rename

Okay, to address the rename suggestion: it is wholly unnecessary. The novelisation makes an active point this is the Doctor's home, and "house" in this context is not more descriptive.

Even The Continuing Adventures of Doctor no. 14 ^[+]Loading...["The Continuing Adventures of Doctor no. 14 (comic story)"] calls the building a "home".

The novelisation describes it as a home once, i.e. "It was a home full of the ghosts of lives well lived". That was said before the Doctor even lived there.

It's described as a house once as well. "It's not just my house, you see; it's sort of for friends too".

But I don't think that's all that important, anyway. We've got the following pages already:

And that's just for companions. I can see a small number with "home" instead and I believe that you created them all, aside from Dodo Chaplet's home (which I named as such because we don't know if it's a house or a flat, the same rationale I presume was used for Amy and Rory Williams' home (Rory's Story)) and Sundays' home (which was originally at Ruby and Carla's flat before you moved it).

My point being that where we know that this is a house, it ought to be called a house. It's not uncertain like with Dodo or with Amy and Rory. It's like having Ian Chesterton's Volkswagen at "Ian Chesterton's vehicle" instead. Jack "BtR" Saxon ☎ 21:56, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

It's not just called the Doctor's home once; the first few sentences of "Move 54" are all about his home:

Home. What does home look like?
⠀⠀He could have had a castle, he could have had a mansion, he could have had a beach hut.
Instead, it was quite nice actually. In the middle of rolling fields and green hills, he could hear the cuckoos call, he could hear the dawn chorus, he could hear the cuckoos call, he could hear the milkman doing his rounds, although Donna assured him it was just the bins being emptied.The Giggle

Not all homes are houses, and not all houses are homes, but this is clearly the Doctor's home. The term implies an emotional connection to a location, which is certainly the case with this home, as demonstrated by the novelisation in great detail.

Certainly many of the pages you've linked above should be renamed, I don't see their usage of "house" as a compelling argument or even precedent, given we often use language that closely matches the source rather than forcing uniformity.

Also, re. Sundays' home, I had been linking to that page name before the Ruby and Carla's flat was created, which isn't even remotely an accurate name anyway as it was owned by Cherry Sunday, not Ruby and Carla.

I find myself agreeing with User:Jack "BtR" Saxon on the rename, especially since there is a difference between a house and a home. To quote a Google search result; "House refers to a building in which someone lives. In contrast, a home can refer either to a building or to any location that a person thinks of as the place where she lives and that belongs to her. A home can be a house or an apartment, but it could also be a tent, a boat, or an underground cave." And since his home is shown to be a house (albeit a rather big one), I think "Fourteenth Doctor's house" is not only concise with prior page names, but also more accurate a description. [Edit conflict] In that quote, the first two mentions are about the concenpt of home in general. The rest of the quote might not even refer to the house but the area which has become his home.

"Home" does have an emotional connection, yes. "Mum" implies more of an emotional connection than "mother", but we've got Bill Potts's mother and Ryan Sinclair's mother rather than "Bill Potts's mum" and "Ryan Sinclair's mum". I don't personally see any merit in that argument.

I also don't see any reason why any of the linked pages should be renamed at all. Whyever would the vaguer concept of "home" be a more fitting title than what that home actually is?

Hi, from my personal view I feel that it makes more sense to call it "Fourteenth Doctor's house", just because that sounds more natural and descriptive and as User:Jack "BTR" Saxon pointed out, that there is a difference between how the wiki tends to use "house" and "home". (I would also like to point out that in everyday conversation, "house" and "home" are not always interchangeable, with "house" referring more to a specific building, though I'm not sure this matters as much as the precedent already set by other usage on the wiki). - User:Theta Sigma Ear Chef, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

IDK, many of the counterarguments people putting forth are, if anything, reinforcing my belief that home is superior. The house is the Doctor's home, and as it is shown how much of a connection he has to the building, it is abundantly clear that this should remain at "Fourteenth Doctor's home" despite the insistence it's less accurate, which it, well, isn't. This is an occasion where home is completely appropriate to be used.
