I've just cracked [Comic] Prisoners of Time #1 - and on page 3, there it is: "He is never alone." This theme is something that turns up again and again, in every incarnation - while with the other hand, we see the Doctor plenty of times travelling alone, and casually so. I get why it's a cool story angle, but if it's going to be canon, then it needs to be canon. It can't be when-it's-convenient/interesting-canon. Sigh. Just saying.
