The nineteenth season of Doctor Who ran between 4th January 1982 and 31st March 1982. This was the first season to feature Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor. It consisted of 7 serials and 26 episodes. A milestone occurred at the end of Earthshock with the death of companion Adric, the first companion to die since the mid-1960s. Other milestones included Black Orchid, the first non-science fictional historical serial since The Gunfighters in the mid-1960s, and the destruction of the sonic screwdriver in The Visitation (not to be seen again until 1996).
