References
- Izzy frequently watched Star Trek: The Next Generation on VHS before travelling with the Doctor.
- When the Doctor was trying to guess why Izzy had requested a trip to 1988 Stockbridge, he incorrectly guessed that they may have returned to England to investigate "cattle mutilation over at Old Man Harvey's farm."
- Izzy tries to find the extremely rare 56th issue of Aggrotron.
- Grakk and his artist were accused of corrupting the youth on his planet with his comic, causing all sorts of mayhem. This led to him and his artist moving to Earth to continue making comics. When the Doctor shuts down the comic Agrotron, commenting on how the kids on Earth are more than capable of ruining their own minds, Grakk goes to plan B, making video games. This mirrors the modern day argument over how video games corrupt the minds of the young, being more or less the same as the arguments made by Fredric Wertham in the 1950s over how comics were corrupting the youth of America.
Notes
- This story was recorded on 30 and 31 October, 2008.
- Jemima Rooper's performance as Izzy was praised by Alan Barnes, who said "she 'got' the character the second she spoke her first line, absolutely - walking the line between 'utterly adorable, give her a hug' and 'slightly irritating nerd' like she was born to play it!" (Vortex issue 5)
- This story remains the only story in which the character of Izzy was performed by an actor.
