This page lists appearances of The Master in the order in which he experienced them.

Limiting factors

What happened to the Master after Survival are hard to reconcile as there are three opposing accounts as to what happened. Events after Doctor Who are difficult to reconcile with each other as they offer contradictory accounts to what happened when the Master escaped the Eye of Harmony.

Youth

The Master gazes into the Time Vortex.
The Master is at the Academy.
The Master is still living on Gallifrey.

13th Incarnation

The Master is already in his incarnation first seen in Terror of the Autons.
The Master is wearing the clothes of the incarnation seen in Terror of the Autons, but targets the Second Doctor, rather than the Third.
Leads into Terror of the Autons.
The Master is imprisoned
The Master is imprisoned.
The Master moves to Fortress island, leading into The Sea Devils
The Master retrieves his TARDIS from where he hid it in The Face of the Enemy.
The Master intends to go to Skaro and ally with the Daleks.

Hideously Wounded

The Master is badly injured by a Dalek superweapon and leads directly into The Deadly Assassin.

A New Regeneration

Leela knows who the Master is, placing it after The Oseidon Adventure, but the Master hasn't met Nyssa yet, placing it before The Keeper of Traken.

Stealing the Body of Tremas

The Master gains the body of Tremas
The Master is trying to reconstitute his body after it was broken down when Castrovalva was destroyed.
The Master is scarred after the events of Planet of Fire.

The Master's timeline takes four conflicting routes after Survival and before Doctor Who.

1.

The Master becomes a "full" Time Lord after making a deal with the Tzun, who make him a new body.
The Master's body is said to be breaking down.

2.

The Master is still infected with the Cheetah virus.
The Master is still infected with the Cheetah virus and heads to Skaro, leading into Doctor Who.

3.

Tremas' body breaks down, turning the Master into the same form seen in The Keeper of Traken.

4.

The Master is wearing the same costume as in Destiny of the Doctors.
The Master is still in Tremas' body, but is not infected with the Cheetah virus.
Set just after Doctor Who whilst the Master is trapped inside the Eye of Harmony.

The Master's timeline takes two conflicting routes after Doctor Who and before UNIT: Dominion.

1.

The Master is still trapped inside the Eye of Harmony.
The Master escapes the Eye of Harmony.
Set during the events of Forgotten.
Set directly after Forgotten.

2.

The Master falls into the Time Vortex immediately after Doctor Who.

Master's 14th Regeneration

Eyes of the Master establishes that the Master is given a new set of regenerations by the Time Lords in exchange for his help.

In Eyes of the Master, the Master notes that he was expecting the Seventh, not the Eighth, Doctor.

Hiding From the Time War

The Master regenerates into the form dubbed "Harold Saxon".

Harold Saxon

The Master conquers the Earth with the Toclafane.
Set a year after The Sound of Drums. The year is subsequently reversed, and the Master is killed and burned. A hand picks up the Master's ring.
Set during the final scene of Last of the Time Lords.
The Disciples of Saxon restore the Master to life using the ring from Last of the Time Lords. The Master vanishes after Gallifrey is sent back into the Last Great Time War.

The Mistress

According to Dark Water and Death in Heaven, after the Doctor left Missy behind in The End of Time, the Master somehow escaped the universe Gallifrey was placed in in The Day of the Doctor and regenerated into a female form dubbed "Missy".
