The Surene were an ancient tribe in Lower Mesopotamia. They had a tradition of burying wives alive with their dead husbands. River Song visited Mesopotamia in the 1920s to investigate a three thousand year old Surene tomb in the vincinity of Ur. (AUDIO: The Boundless Sea)
