Wright brothers

The Wright Brothers were human inventors. Often credited with the invention of powered flight, in fact the Victorians had invented indoor powered flight, while the Wright Brothers had invented outdoor powered flight, as the Twelfth Doctor told Clara Oswald when discussing how the British do not like to boast of their achievements. (PROSE: Silhouette)

Harry Carruthers asked the Tenth Doctor if he had a flying machine like the Wright Brothers in America. (PROSE: Revenge of the Judoon)

Gordon Conall Lethbridge-Stewart could remember reading about the Wright Brothers' first flight. (PROSE: The Dying Days)

When Turlough asked if they could take a plane to get from Vladivostok to St Petersburg, the Fifth Doctor reminded him that it was 1904 and the Wright brothers had barely flown sixty feet yet, let alone started a passenger service. (PROSE: Gudok)

Joel Mintz reminded Penelope Gate that "even the Wright brothers did the odd nosedive" while trying to convince her to ask the Seventh Doctor for help returning home when her time machine malfunctioned. (PROSE: The Room With No Doors)
