Professor Chronotis's TARDIS was disguised as the living quarters of Professor Chronotis at St. Cedd's College, Cambridge University. It was capable of holding another TARDIS within its force field and creating a bridge between the two to walk through. (WC: Shada, AUDIO: Shada, PROSE: Shada, TV: Shada)
This TARDIS was a Type 12, Mark 1 TARDIS, (PROSE: Shada) which Chronotis had salvaged from the scrap heap before leaving Gallifrey, something he was not meant to do under Time Lord law since as he had retired he was not meant to possess a TARDIS.
It could interfere in an individual's time stream, as Clare Keightley discovered when she reactivated the ship's controls, causing the previously deceased Chronotis to come back to life. (WC: Shada, AUDIO: Shada, PROSE: Shada, TV: Shada)
Features
Professor Chronotis' TARDIS had completely different equipment compared to any other TARDIS considering it was much older than others used by different renegades: it featured no roundels, due to the interior being a library, and it didn't have a control console; instead, its controls were hidden in a bookshelf behind a fake line of books. Behind the scenes
- While Chronotis's living quarters could not be specified as a TARDIS in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, they still functioned as a time machine. He plotted his course through the continuum not using a control panel but with an abacus. However, his telephone malfunctioned whenever he travelled, and the abacus stopped working when the telephone line was repaired. Chronotis's lack of a working telephone line was alluded to in the novelisation of Shada.
