Anyone but Me was an American film from the 1980s. The plot focused on an unpopular student, Alison Hartley, being nominated for class president as a joke and subsequently reinventing herself to make herself "unelectable" only for these effects to backfire. Kaliopi Mileska enjoyed it as a comedy while the Bruce Master did not.

The Doctor kept a VHS cassette of the film in a spare room of his TARDIS. When the TARDIS ejected that room upon the Master materialising in it, he found the VHS among its contents. As part of a plan to escape the Time Vortex, he captured a Vormatoda cub and gave it the human guise of Alison, after the film's protagonist, while naming himself "Daniel" after her father. After River Song had defeated the Master and returned Alison to her true form, she claimed the VHS as entertainment for herself while she repaired her vortex manipulator. While watching, River noted that Alison's story bore similarities to her Vormatoda counterpart. (AUDIO: The Lifeboat and the Deathboat)
