Frank Cox (28 May 1940[1]-27 April 2021[2]) directed the Doctor Who episodes "The Brink of Disaster," "Kidnap," and "A Desperate Venture". He was also interviewed on the documentary Over the Edge.
Cox went to Ealing Grammar School as a child. He then studied English at Leeds University, and took up a job as floor assistant at the BBC after his graduation.[3]
Doctor Who was Cox's directing debut, after which he worked on the popular "sci-fact" drama Doomwatch and detective series Paul Temple. He also produced episodes of Sutherland's Law and C.A.T.S. Eyes.
He was married to Bridget Turner, who played Alice Cassini in the Doctor Who television story Gridlock, until her passing in 2014.
He retired as a director in 1998, and as of November 2020, is the only Doctor Who director to have never directed an entire story.
