This topic might have a better name.

While it is spelt "Xian" in PROSE: Marco Polo, it is spelt "Xi'an" in PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger and Falling from Xi'an. Also "Xi'an" is the accepted spelling in the modern day.

Talk about it here.

Xi'an

Xi'an, earlier known as Xianyang, was a city in China. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

In the 3rd century BC, (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger) during the reign of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, Xianyang was the capital of China. (PROSE: Marco Polo) The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang was located near the city. In 1865, the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Vicki Pallister and allies battled a resurrected Qin Shi Huang (curtesy of the Mandragora Helix) in the mausoleum. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

References

The First Doctor suggested to Marco Polo that he might want to dig in the area around Xi'an, if he wanted to find the tomb of Qin Shi Huang. (PROSE: Marco Polo)
