A mausoleum was a funerary temple.
The name came from King Mausolus, whose mausoleum at Halicarnassus was declared one of the Seven Wonders of the World and was unearthed by Charles Newton in the 19th century. When it was unearthed, the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn Smythe noted that a drawing of a Dalek was part of the artwork on the mausoleum. (PROSE: The Eighth Wonder of the World)
