• 1st July - 4 November - Allied forces halt, then reverse the advance of Axis forces into Egypt at two separate battles near the town of El-Alamein. The Doctor is wounded at one of those battles ("The Sea Devils").

• November - Reports of vampires emerge out of Roumania ("The Curse of Fenric").

• 24th December - Oskar Steinmann supervises the first test of a "flying bomb" at Peenemunde("Just War").

• 28 - Ilona Rodgers, who played Carol in "The Sensorites," is born in Harrogate, England.

• 18 - Beatle Paul McCartney, who appeared as himself in "The Chase," is born in Liverpool.

• 29 - Michael Craze, who portrayed companion Ben Jackson, is born in Cornwall, England.
