A Sontaran was dispatched to Earth in 2000 to track down Commander Brak, who had crashed there in 1916 and remained alive in human captivity ever since.

Confronting Brak in his quarters at Site B9 in Geneva, the envoy questioned him about his current agenda, dismissing his delusional lie that he was still acting on orders from General Dakaal and forcing him to admit his decisions were his own. After Brak dropped the charade and exposed his plan to accelerate humanity's military development in the hope of making them a foe worthy of the Sontaran Empire, the envoy admitted that the plan had merit, but still judged Brak too corrupted by human thinking to be permitted back into the Sontaran military corps. His initial decision was to simply leave Brak in the humans' custody; Brak viewed this as a disgrace, and attacked him with a C12 pulse rifle to goad him into fatally shooting Brak. Annoyed that Brak had tricked him into giving him the warrior's death of which he had judged Brak unworthy, the envoy made his escape from Site B9, leaving UNIT Captain Alice Wells to find the dying Brak alone in his quarters.
