Proteus, the fourth and fifth episodes in the fourth season of X-Men: The Animated Series, formed a two-part storyline broadcast between 30 Septembers and 7 October 1995.[1]

Notably, it was a crossover with Doctor Who, as it featured Fascination, a member of a team of multiverse-travelling mercenaries known as the Special Executives, who debuted in the Doctor Who Weekly comic story 4-D War [+]Loading...["4-D War (comic story)"].

Synopsis

The long hidden secret patient of Muir Island, a reality-warping mutant teen known as Proteus, escapes from his 15-year long captivity, and wreaks havoc across Scotland searching out his father.

Plot

Part I

On Muir Island, Moira MacTaggert and Sean Cassidy try to treat the dangerous mutant power that Moira's son, Kevin, wields. However, the procedure goes awry, and Kevin breaks through his containment cell, flinging Moira and Sean against the wall. Kevin possesses Sean, whilst Moira insists that Kevin should leave Sean's body and continue the treatment; Kevin leavs Sean's body, but instead flees.

At Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters, Hank McCoy, aka Beast, is at a computer when a distress call from Moira comes through. Wolverine, Anna Marie, and Charles Xavier join Hank to listen to the message. The message is brief, with Moira asking for Xavier's help, and then it cuts out. Xavier tells Beast to ready the Blackbird. Shortly, the X-Men take off in the Blackbird.
