Amy's History Hunt was a game available on the BBC Doctor Who website. It was based on Amy's actions during the events of The War of Art.
The game featured Karen Gillan as Amy Pond in an introduction video, a further two videos in which Amy is Looking back at Vincent van Gogh and Winston Churchill, nine audio clips entitled Amy's Profile in which Amy covers relevant historical subjects, and lastly a video message of congratulations for completing the game.
Introduction[[edit] | [edit source]]
Amy Pond shouts outside the TARDIS for the Eleventh Doctor. She sees someone and tells them that the Doctor has run out in search of his favourite painting. She returns inside, where the TARDIS tries to tell her where the painting is. It shows her a room with a safe and some pictures. She sees a note on the safe from the Doctor to the Doctor, telling him the painting is in the vault, that he can find the code to the safe on the pictures and he needs to buy socks. Amy asks the person to help her by going to the gallery and working out the combination to the vault.
Game[[edit] | [edit source]]
The game is in a multiple choice question-and-answer format, allowing players to research the necessary information beforehand.
For each of the ten topics, three questions needed to be answered. Should the player answer incorrectly, they must begin that topic again. Each correctly answered question also unlocks a small fact about the topic of the question. Once the three questions had been answered, one number is revealed for unlocking the safe.
The ten topics were:
- RMS Titanic
- Stonehenge
- Pompeii
- Charles Dickens
- Queen Victoria
- Shakespeare
- The Romans
- Agatha Christie
- Vincent van Gogh
- Winston Churchill
Once all numbers are unlocked, the safe opens to reveal the painting. As a prize, the player is rewarded with a short story in PDF format, entitled, The War of Art.

Story notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- On the BBC site, the name of the game varies among Amy's History Hunt, History Hunt and The History Hunt.
- This game breaks the fourth wall.
- The first of the Amy's Profile installments, which covers Winston Churchill, is titled simply Amy's Profile. Later installments would specify their subject in the title.
- The audio clip which should logically be titled Amy's Profile: Agatha Christie is titled Looking back at Agatha Christie in the format of the two live-action videos covering Vincent van Gogh and Winston Churchill.
- Amy states that Queen Victoria's reign of 63 years was the longest for a British monarch; this record would later be surpassed by Elizabeth II.
- Amy references the events of TV: The Fires of Pompeii [+]Loading...["The Fires of Pompeii (TV story)"]. Incidentally, Karen Gillan played a soothsayer in that episode before being cast as Amy Pond.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Amy is wearing her outfit which she wore in TV: The Journey [+]Loading...["The Journey (TV story)"], TV: Victory of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Victory of the Daleks (TV story)"] and The Adventure Games. However, the promotional image for the game depicts Amy in her outfit from TV: The Hungry Earth [+]Loading...["The Hungry Earth (TV story)"]/Cold Blood [+]Loading...["Cold Blood (TV story)"].
- This game chronicles Amy's actions while the Doctor looks for his painting in PROSE: The War of Art.
- Amy calls the TARDIS "old girl", noting that the Doctor does so. The Doctor has often shown affection for the TARDIS, referring to it as a female. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen, The Eleventh Hour et al.)
- The image of Lobus Caecilius from TV: The Fires of Pompeii [+]Loading...["The Fires of Pompeii (TV story)"] is used to represent the Romans.
- Amy reflects on her encounters with Vincent van Gogh and Winston Churchill, whom she met in TV: Vincent and the Doctor [+]Loading...["Vincent and the Doctor (TV story)"] and TV: Victory of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Victory of the Daleks (TV story)"] respectively.
- Amy incorrectly states that the RMS Titanic was launched from Belfast in 1912. Whilst the sinking of the RMS Titanic did indeed occur in that year, the ship itself was launched earlier on 31 May, 1911, which would be acknowledged in PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary [+]Loading...["Time Traveller's Diary (novel)"].
