Great Britain was the largest of the British Isles. Politically, it was made up of England, Scotland and Wales. It was created in the 1707 Act of Union by Queen Anne. Its capital cities included London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Along with at least parts of the island of Ireland, it comprised the United Kingdom. People from Great Britain were variously self-identified as "English", "Scottish" or "Welsh" — although members of any of these groups were also more generally referred to as "British". The Doctor's long association with the island led him to often be identified as British, typically when he was visiting other parts of Earth. (DW: The Gunfighters, Doctor Who).
Aliens seemed particularly interested in Great Britain. It perhaps attracted more extra-terrestrials than any other single land mass on Earth. [additional sources needed]
