Demons Run was an asteroid used as a base used by Madame Kovarian's alliance of the Church's Anglican Regiment and the Headless monks, in 5145, dedicated to defeating The Doctor. Amy Pond was held prisoner and gave birth to her daughter here. It was later the site of the Battle of Demon's Run, in which the Doctor attempted to rescue Amy and her baby.

History

Some time after Amy's honeymoon onboard the Doctor's TARDIS, after her child was conceived, she was captured by Kovarian's alliance and replaced by a Ganger perfectly synced to the real Amy so that neither the Doctor nor Amy's husband Rory would notice.

As far as Amy knew, she was continuing her adventures with the Doctor and Rory. In reality, Amy's pregnant body was taken to Demon's Run in the 52nd Century. However, the Doctor realised what had happened to Amy and terminated her Ganger. The real Amy woke up on Demon's Run just before giving birth to her daughter, Melody Pond. (DW: The Rebel Flesh) He then proceeded to assemble an army of allies from various races and time periods. He attacked the Twelfth Cyber Legion to intimidate Amy's captors.

In accordance with the Headless Monks' alliance protocol, one Cleric was to be initiated into their religion. Later, during a speech by Colonel Manton, he was allowed to unveil the monks to reveal knots of skin where the bases of their necks should be. The third monk removed his own hood, revealing himself to be the Doctor in disguise. When the lights were turned off he vanished and claimed he was one of the monks. A marine shot a hooded figure who turned out to be a real Monk. The Monks began to kill the marines in retaliation until the Colonel told everyone to ceasefire. With the Monks and Clerics unarmed, the Doctor's own forces, an army of Silurians and Judoon led by Sontaran Commander Strax, suddenly appeared. A squad of spitfires destroyed Demons Run's communications array so the alliance wouldn't be able to call for help.

Colonel Manton was forced to surrender and he, Kovarian and the rest of the Clerics (bar Lorna Bucket) abandoned the base. Unbeknownst to the Doctor and his allies, Kovarian had Melody with her, and the baby they rescued was a ganger, which was revealed to them soon after The Headless Monks struck, massacring most of the Silurians before they even noticed. The Monks then surrounded the Doctor's remaining allies, Rory, Dorium, Strax, Madame Vastra, Jenny and Lorna. After killing Dorium, a battle started. This resulted in all the Monks being killed, while Strax and Lorna were both mortally wounded and died shortly afterwards. Melody's future self, River Song, appeared after the battle to reveal her true identity. The Doctor then departed the asteroid alone, to find the infant Melody. (DW: A Good Man Goes to War)

There was a saying that went with Demon's Run: "Demons run when a good man goes to war." (DW: A Good Man Goes to War)

Demons run when a good man goes to war;
Night will fall and drown the sun
When a good man goes to war.
Friendship dies and true love lies,
Night will fall and the dark will rise,
When a good man goes to war,
Demons run, but count the cost,
The battle's won, but the child is lost,
When a good man goes to war.
