Synopsis

The strands of Donna's story begin to draw towards a terrible climax as she finds her life, her family, her entire world being devastated. Only one person can help. But this time it's not the Doctor-it's someone from a parallel universe, an old friend thought to be lost forever...

Story notes

• This is the first story to feature Rose in the capacity of the Doctor's companion since Doomsday.*
• Lucius Petrus Dextrus from The Fires of Pompeii says that "she is returning" when seeing the future. This is most likely a reference to Rose's return in this episode.
• Billie Piper was last seen at the end of Partners in Crime.
• Chipo Chung was last seen in the episode Utopia as the Malmooth, Chantho. She plays a human character in this story.

Rumours

• Donna has something on her back (refered to in Fire of Pompeii by Lucius) and is a Metebelis spider.
• If Rose returns in this episode, then it is quite likely that it is the beginning of a three part story. If this is true, then Martha Jones, Jack Harkness, Mickey Smith, Jackie Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, K-9, Davros, Harriet Jones or Dalek Caan could also return in this episode.
• Gwen, Ianto, Rhys or PC Andy could make a cameo appearance, perhaps with Jack before he goes to help the Doctor.
• In Planet of the Ood when Ood Sigma said "your song will end soon" The Ood sang songs craving to be reunited with each other, and the Doctor's song of craving for Rose will end soon so he will be reunited with her once more.
• Rose and the Doctor will never actually meet in this episode. They may be able to see each other, but not be physically in the same place possibly because they are in Bad Wolf Bay.

Continuity

• In The Sontaran Strategem the Sat Nav kept saying Turn Left. The Doctor is also heard saying Turn Right not Left. This could have something to do with this episode. Also in Boom Town Captain Jack was telling story when Mickey says 'I knew we should have turned left ' to which Jack replies 'That's my line!'. In The Shakespeare Code, the Doctor, when running back to the Globe, turns left instead of right, and is told by Martha that they're going the wrong way. In Blink, the video of the Doctor tells Sally Sparrow to "look to the left," indicating that he got future information from Larry Nightingale.

DVD and Other releases

• This is due to be released in the Series 4 boxset in November 2008 along with the rest of the Series.
