Larry Nightingale

Lawrence "Larry" Nightingale was a movie buff who worked in a book and DVD shop with Sally Sparrow.

Larry was born in 1976. (GAME: The Lonely Assassins ^[+]Loading...["The Lonely Assassins (video game)"]) His sister, Kathy, was born in Lancashire, (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac) no later than 1988. (TV: Blink)

Both of their parents passed away, after which Larry rarely contacted his sister, unless he needed a place to stay. He would later express regret that he hadn't spoken to her more. (GAME: The Lonely Assassins ^[+]Loading...["The Lonely Assassins (video game)"])

Meeting Sally Sparrow[[edit] | [edit source]]

He first met Sally Sparrow (a friend of his sister) when he was walking naked around his sister's flat. He knew of the easter-eggs on 17 DVDs containing the Tenth Doctor and Martha.

Sally told him that his sister had gone on a trip when she had in fact been transported to Hull on 5 December 1920 by the Weeping Angels. Kathy got married to Ben Wainwright, lived a full life, and died in 1987. Unbeknownst to him, Larry had a niece and two nephews older than he was. They also spoke about the easter-egg, Larry describing it as a "ghost DVD extra" which not even the manufacturers or the publishers know anything about. He deduced that it was half of a conversation and he and "the guys" (the Internet) were trying to figure out the other half. He gave Sally the list of 17 DVDs containing it before she left.

Sally later found out that the easter-egg was meant for her, inserted on all of the DVDs she owns by Billy Shipton, who had been transported back to 1969. She and Larry went to Wester Drumlins where they watched the DVD extra again, Larry writing in their bits of the conversation in short-hand.

They confronted the Weeping Angels, Larry nearly getting sent back by one when he looked behind him. They successfully returned the TARDIS to the Doctor and Martha and trapped the Angels by making them look at each other. Sally and Larry began running the video-store together. One day the following year, Larry found Sally sorting things from their encounter into a folder, wondering if it was getting in the way of "other things". They soon after met the Doctor and Martha in person, and walked back in the store holding hands. (TV: Blink)

The "other things" didn't work out with Sally, though the pair remained friends. She left Sparrow & Nightingale in Larry's "capable hands" when she moved to America in March of 2017. (GAME: The Lonely Assassins ^[+]Loading...["The Lonely Assassins (video game)"])

At some point Larry met Clyde Langer; by 2020, he would ask Rani Chandra how Clyde was, having "not seen him for ages". (GAME: The Lonely Assassins ^[+]Loading...["The Lonely Assassins (video game)"])

By 2021, Larry was married to Natasha. (AUDIO: Angels)

Larry regularly played campaigns, in one of which he was a Cleric, with Mo Rasheed and Tom, though Larry bailed on the group for a series of weeks in early 2021.

Return to Wester Drumlins[[edit] | [edit source]]

He corresponded with Abby McPhail, (AUDIO: Angels) and responded to Professor Grey’s request on Into The Unknown for information about Wester Drumlins. He and Natasha met Grey and Larry told him about the Weeping Angels. He also persuaded Grey to re-release an article about a police box seen in 1955 Alabama. (PROSE: Life is strange...and precious.) Rani Chandra contacted Larry about his sister’s disappearance during her investigation into Wester Drumlins. He encouraged her investigation, but warned her to stay away from Wester Drumlins itself. At this time Larry was attempting to dissuade a Mr Flint from his plans to renovate Wester Drumlins, afraid of what he might unleash. Larry wrote a guest article for Into The Unknown about his experiences with Rani and fears of what Mr Flint’s plans could cause. (PROSE: A Warning to the Incurious) With the help of Rani, both Larry and Sally wrote at least one further article under the pseudonym Cal Nye Wallers.

Larry was arranging a birthday party for his friend Dazza, when Natasha disappeared from home on 17 February 2021. Larry went to the police with Natasha's best friend, Izzy Townsend. He also registered with FindMe - a missing persons database. (GAME: The Lonely Assassins ^[+]Loading...["The Lonely Assassins (video game)"]) After Natasha disappeared, Larry asked Grey to share it on Into The Unknown in case anyone knew anything. (PROSE: Quick favour) Whilst his wife was missing, Larry noticed his memories and notes of the Angels and his wife beginning to disappear, along with other friends. Blaming the Angels he went to confront them, (AUDIO: Angels) seemingly disappearing. (PROSE: The Angels are Coming)

In truth, he was taken back in time by "an old friend", who reunited him with his wife in the 1920s. Living in the past, Larry was impacted (AUDIO: Angels) by the Redacted Distortion. (AUDIO: Rescue) He felt his memories return and realised this had not been caused by the Angels. He left a tape message for Abby McPhail in a buried box at Glasgow Necropolis, where they'd arranged to meet, explaining his disappearance and warning about the fading memories and disappearances. Larry was a human male who was a fan of films. He was fascinated by the mystery of (TV: Blink) the Easter Egg Man. (PROSE: The Secret Lives of Monsters) Larry enjoyed the film Trainspotting, but found Lawrence of Arabia boring. He and Natasha would often talk about television series. He perused urban legends sites such as Into The Unknown and had an account with Sacred Circle. He often went to conventions with Natasha. Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

• There was a plan in one draft to have the book and DVD shop run by Sally and Larry to be crushed by a Dalek ship in The Stolen Earth, but this scene wasn't filmed.
• The full story of Larry's disappearance is told in GAME: The Lonely Assassins. The game's secret ending reveals that, after his wife Natasha was taken into the past by an angel, he did not vanish because of an angel; saving him from one of the lonely assassins, the Thirteenth Doctor took him to the 1920s so he could live happily with Natasha in the past. UNIT promised to wipe all evidence of their lives in the 1920s. The fourth episode of the valid BBC Sounds series Redacted, Angels, referenced this fate.
