Donna Noble is the fiercely independent companion of the Tenth Doctor.

Biography

Donna Noble is the daughter of Geoff and Sylvia Noble (née Mott) (DW: The Runaway Bride) and the grand-daughter of her maternal grandfather, Wilfred Mott. On her first day at school, she was sent home for biting. (DW:The Runaway Bride)

When she was six years old her mother refused to take her on a holiday that year so she got on a bus and went on her own to Strathclyde. Her grandfather would later recount this story to her as a way to remind her of her determination to do whatever she wanted. (DW: Partners in Crime)

Donna missed out on the Christmas Day Sycorax invasion of Earth due to a hangover, and missed the Cybermen invasion because she was on holiday in Spain going scuba diving. Consequently, she was unprepared for the possibility of the existence of alien life when she first encountered it herself. In 2006, Donna began working as a temporary secretary at H.C. Clements, a security firm. There she met and fell in love with Lance Bennett, whom she eventually got to propose to her. While she planned the wedding, she was unaware that Lance was dosing her coffee with huon particles by order of the Empress of the Racnoss, whom he secretly served. (DW: The Runaway Bride)

On the day of her wedding (Christmas Eve 2006), while walking down the aisle with Lance, huon particles interacted with her elevated mental state, causing Donna to be teleported into the Doctor's TARDIS, to surprise of them both (DW: Doomsday). The Doctor eventually returned her to her wedding reception, after the intervention of Robot Santas prevented his returning her in time for her actual wedding. When a Robotic Christmas Tree began firing explosives at the wedding guests, the Doctor decided to investigate H.C. Clements, where they learned of Lance's plan to help the Empress conquer Earth. Donna assisted the Doctor in defeating her, but turned down his offer to travel with him. (DW: The Runaway Bride).

Donna's eyes had been opened to the universe by this event. She tried to live without the Doctor, going to Egypt for two weeks in an attempt to bring back some excitment in her life, but when this failed, she set to work in trying to investigate unexplained happenings in hope of meeting him again, knowing the Doctor always ran into trouble. She managed to catch up with him while looking into mysteries connected with Adipose Industries. Donna witnessed the March of the Adipose and then went on to travel with the Doctor in the TARDIS after showing her grandad her departure. Just before she departed in the TARDIS, whilst attempting to find a suitable place to leave her car keys, approached a blonde woman standing at a police line. This woman was Rose Tyler. (DW: Partners in Crime).

On Donna's first trip in the TARDIS she went to what she thought was Rome but it was Pompeii as she found out when the earth started shaking. She found it weird when she found language written in English but the Doctor said the TARDIS translates language in your head. She met a man called Caecilius and his family and tried to tell them about the volcano that was about to erupt but they did not understand. So she spoke to his daughter Evelina and told her what was going to happen. But Evelina had a psychic link with the Sibylline Sisterhood and they secretly watched. They did not like what they saw so they kidnapped Donna and threatened to sacrifice her. Just as one was about to kill her the Doctor saved Donna from dying and they went into the inside of the volcano and the Doctor was going to destroy the Pyroviles techonology and did it but it would mean killing everyone in Pompeii. She and the Doctor got back to the TARDIS and saved one family and that was Caecilius' family. (DW: The Fires of Pompeii)

She is a West Ham United F.C. fan. When she arrived on Ood Sphere she was amazed at the fact that she was on an alien planet. She was at first disgusted at the appearence of the Ood but then realised that they needed caring for and had rights as much as anyone. (DW: Planet of the Ood)

Work

Donna has been working as a temping secretary on several places, including H.C. Clements. (DW: The Runaway Bride / The Sontaran Stratagem) When she met the Doctor again she "worked" at Adipose Industries. She has also worked for six months at Hounslow Library, where she learned Dewey Decimal System in two days flat. (DW: The Doctor's Daughter)

Personality

Donna is rude, bossy, and boisterous. She constantly insulted the Doctor, especially after learning that he was an alien. But she truly did love Lance, and was absolutely heartbroken and in tears when she learned that he had been using her (DW: The Runaway Bride).

Donna regretted her decision to stay at home and she decided to look for the Doctor. When she found him she made it clear that she did not fancy him as Martha Jones (and Rose Tyler) had. (DW: Partners in Crime).

She has also shown great signs of humanism and empathy. (DW: The Fires of Pompeii/Planet of the Ood)

Behind the Scenes

She returned in Series 4 for the full series as a companion. She tracked down the Doctor during the March of the Adipose and will begin her travels by visiting Pompeii on the eve of destruction, and travelling to the "Planet of the Ood", before meeting the Sontarans and Martha Jones in a story titled "The Sontaran Stratagem", and murder mystery novelist Agatha Christie in another episode. She will leave the show at the end of Series 4, according to Catherine Tate. She will also meet the previous companions Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith and Jack Harkness. Catherine Tate confirmed she will not return for the 2009 specials.

Doctor Noble was also an alias of the third incarnation of the Doctor.
