Areta was a rebel prisoner on Varos and the wife of Jondar. She helped the Sixth Doctor, Peri Brown and Jondar attempt to escape the Punishment Dome. However, Areta, Peri and Jondar were captured by the guards.
She and Peri were later subjected to Quillam's transmogrifier, and Areta began mutating into a reptile, but they were rescued by the Doctor and Jondar. (TV: Vengeance on Varos)
